Reflection Paper

I still remember why I decided to choose computer language learning class in this semester. Because I want to improve my English ability, including speaking, writing and listening. The most important thing is speaking, I think. But until now, I am still afraid of speaking English. I do not know why. Although I have got TOEIC 750 score in last winter vacation. So I want to learn English by other way, except conventional English class. And I chose this class.

I know technology is very convenient now. I can find a lots of information what I want on the internet. But I don’t know what is “CALL.” I even do not notice that I am keep using them, either! After this class, I have understood what it means - Computer Assisted Language Learning. I also know “MALL” – Mobile Assisted Language Learning. And I am keep going using them.

I have heard classmate said that you can set up your own blog online. What you want to share, what kind of the blog style, who you want to show. It is all up to you. I have never use blog before. So when teacher said that we are going to set up ours own blogs. I am feeling afraid and excited. Besides, we have different homework on weekend. It enforce me to practice and improve my English, I like it!

Teacher introduces a lot of websites to us. Some online dictionaries such as, Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary Dictionary and Collins COBUILD Advanced Dictionary. I like Oxford more than others. Because of the dictionary is a Monolingual dictionary, not a Bilingual dictionary. Although Oxford is a Monolingual dictionary, it does not use so many complex vocabularies. So I can understand a new vocabulary in a short time. I do not need to spend another time to look up. I also can improve my reading ability at the same time.

We also have English presentation in this class. Compare with other classes it is more challenging for me. Because it is not allow to bring any sheet to the stage when you are present. When I heard it, what I am thinking is “Oh my god! Are you kidding me? It is English presentation. Not Chinese!” To tell you the truth, it is the first time. But I did it! Although my presentation it is not very well. I also found an interesting website when I was prepared－Voice Tube. It is like You Tube has so many kinds of videos. Specially, I can see the subtitles beside the video in Voice Tube. All of the videos have subtitles. Besides, I can record the vocabulary that I do not understand. It also can look up dictionary immediately. So I do not need to open a new page to look up. It is really very useful.

After this class, I take out my mobile and watch CNN news every morning when I am taking the MRT. It is a little difficult for me now. But I believe that someday it will become easy for me. In my free time I go to Voice Tube look for some interesting videos and watch them. Yes, I do not like to learn English in a normal way. I am motivated by this class. Hope I can keep my passion to learn English. Sometimes, it is interesting!

#7 Opencourseware

I have never heard Opencourseware before,but now I know. I can learn a lot of things from this website. Not only English, I also can learn others languages such as Spanish. It's very useful. There also including information about management, science, economy... etc. I'm sure I can learn a lot of knowledge from here.

#5 Thoughts

    There are five people in my family. I have two brothers and I'm the youngest. We are only one year apart in age. I always believe that my family is very perfect. But something is going to be change when I'm 12 years old.

    One day, my father started to drank numerous wines. In that time, he was drunk everyday. I really don't know what's wrong with him. Sometimes may not let us sleep at night. Eventually, because of the Alcohol poisoning, he was taken to hospital and took some treatments. I hate him . But he still is my father. Although he is still drink wine and do not have a job.

    Thank you.
    Make me strong.
    So that I'm more independent and premature than others who have the same age as me. 

    If it weren't you,  I would not have the ability to study in Taipei now.
    I don't hate you anymore. On the contrary, I really appreciate it.

#4 Steve Jobs' Speech

There are 11 different classes this semester. I only interested in Spanish class. I don't have the same passion for others classes. Jobs decided to dropped out, but most of the college students continue to finish their schoolwork. Including me. He have found what he want to do and what he like to do. But I don't, so I don't have this courage to do the same thing. Hope I can find them, too. As earlier, as better.


Love well,whip well. When I stumbles into some problems. I always recall this sentence. Jobs said: Keep looking. Don't settle. It's not easy to do, but I am going to try.


I think "Death" is a normal phenomenon in human's life. Before it comes. I want to do a lot of things, such as travel the world, live with my dearest family...etc. We never know what is going to happen next.

So, just do it！

#3 Podcast

In fact,I'm not usually use some English learning websites to improve my English.
Podcast is a good resource. The host use easy sentences to explain difficult vocabularies.
It's easy to understand. I hope I can spare some times to use Podcast.

#2 Dictionary Exercise

1.commute(v.):to travel regularly by bus, train, car, etc. between your place of work and your home.

• commute (from A) (to B)
  Ex: I commute from New Taipei City to Taipei every day.
• commute between A and B
   Ex :Denny have commuted between Taichung and Nantou about three years.

2.disruption(n.):a situation in which it is difficult for something to continue in the normal way; the act of stopping something from continuing in the normal way.

Ex:The earthquake caused serious disruptions in Japan.

3.correspondingly(adv.):in a way that matches or is connected with something that you have just       mentioned.

Ex:This mission is more complex and have to spend correspondingly more times.

4.swap(v.):to give something to somebody and receive something in exchange.

Ex:Can I swap my red postcard for your purple one?

5.reinforce(v.):to make a feeling, an idea, etc. stronger.

 Ex:The government decided to reinforce some public constructions.

My favorite online dictionary is Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary . Because it explain vocabularies more easily than others, so I can understand more quickly. There doesn't have too much difficult vocabularies in example sentences.I think it is the best one for me.

Hello my classmates, my name is Jessica. Chinese name is LIN-YU-CHING. I major in international business. I'm so glad that I have this chance to make friend with everybody and also happy to meet teacher Sally. In this class, I hope I can improve my English capability, including reading and listening, even my speaking capability. I think my English is not very well, so I am afraid to speak English with others. Hope this class will improve my brave to speak out loud and have more confidence.
